The Green Brook Middle School offers an abundance of programs to meet the needs and interests of its student population.  The middle school campus houses a total of 450 students in grades five through eight. This configuration provides an opportunity to orientate students to the middle school model gradually. There is a modified self-contained model for grade five, and a middle school, departmentalized model for grades six through eight.

Academic programs form the foundation of the Green Brook Middle School. Advanced classes in mathematics, language arts literacy, science, and social studies challenge the most capable students by offering accelerated and enriched curriculum, often at a grade level above the students’ current placement.  Students enjoy Harcourt Brace, Glencoe, and McDougall Littell mathematics programs. Beginning in the five grade, students select Spanish or Latin, in which their studies continue for the remainder of the middle school years. The Prentice Hall language arts literacy program provides a literature-based approach to the teaching of reading and English. The science program utilizes an inquiry-based, hands-on approach to the subject for all grade levels. The social studies program concentrates on the United States, New Jersey, civics, and cultures of the world.

Special classes and programs benefit both the gifted and talented students, as well as, the students in need of additional support.  GBMS offers GATE English Language Arts classes grades 6-8, GATE Science classes for grades seven and eight, and a GATE Social Studies class for grade eight students.
